Gellman Room Concerts: Commonwealth Concert Opera Unleashed
As part of the RPL 100 Centennial Celebration, and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Gellman Room Concerts, Commonwealth Concert Opera Unleashed will present music and readings from 1923 (the year the Library Board of Trustees was established) and 1973 (Gellman Room Concerts’ inaugural year). Attendees will hear music by Weill and Romberg, Sondheim and Wagner, and readings from Kahil Gibran and JRR Tolkien.
Since 1973, the Gellman Room Concerts have been free and open to the public. The concerts were initiated by Myra Knight, Senior Librarian of the Art and Music Department at RPL, “to give Richmond area instrumentalists and vocalists a place to perform and entertain countless music lovers.”
