Carl Patow will discuss his participatory, relational artwork performed in spring, 2019 in Richmond, VA. 

WORKS WHEN asks residents of Richmond, VA what works for them in their neighborhood. They place a small pearl on a stylized map of the city, locating their neighborhood. 

On the reverse of the tile, they write a sentence about their neighborhood, including the words "WORKS WHEN" in the sentence. The tiles are assembled geographically on a floor map of the city, creating thought communities about life in Richmond.
