READ Out Loud Book Club
With READ RVA’s volunteer literacy tutor support, adult patrons of Richmond’s Main Library will be invited to read together during a weekly READ Out Loud book club. Participants of all reading levels will be welcomed and supported. The session will include reading practice as well as time to consider, discuss, engage, and grow together as readers and book lovers. Members may read aloud or simply state ‘pass’ when it is their turn to read. There is no pressure to take a turn!
Tutors and students take breaks from reading aloud to discuss vocabulary as well as higher level questions involving plot, characters, key details, and making predictions. Additionally, tutors will encourage participants to consider the emotional well-being of characters and their families, financial literacy, conflict resolution, and applicable literary terms.
