Holmes will discuss her book Safe in a Midwife's Hands: Birthing Traditions from Africa to the American South. In her book, Holmes uses the power of oral history and interviews to tell the story of African and African American midwives throughout history. She'll also discuss her work in the field of birthing justice and alternative approaches to birth in a medical system that all too often fails Black mothers.
