Gellman Concert Series - Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia
Opus 20: Anniversary
The Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia celebrates its 20th anniversary by focusing on the number 20 in a gorgeous concert of romantic music from the late 19th century. An ensemble of six musicians from CMSCVA’s superb artistic roster will perform Edward Elgar’s Serenade opus 20 in a special arrangement for strings and flute, and Borodin’s famous String Quartet in D major, written as a 20th anniversary wedding gift for his wife.
Flexible in personnel and repertoire, the Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia has been a leader in the classical music scene in Richmond for the past 20 years. Dedicated to inspiring, entertaining, and moving its community and audience through combination of unique venues, world-class musicians, thought-provoking content and eclectic classical music, CMSCVA engages with contemporary culture and honors the classical tradition. CMSCVA strives to promote interest and diversity in the musical life of Richmond by centering on the culture, history and people of its home base, while fostering artistic excellence that has brought it a world-wide reputation. While its artists perform music from all periods in thoughtful and imaginative programs, CMSCVA also commissions multiple new works of chamber music per year, creating a body of work that will live on into the future of classical music.
