Explore the James River Park @ West End Branch Library!
Calling all elementary students in grade K-5: Come to the library on Tuesdays at 3:30pm and learn more about a wonderful park right here in our backyard! Staff from James River Parks will lead and offer a series of programs focusing on different aspects of the waterway and its environment. Each week will include a discussion, an activity and a take home to continue your exploration of the James River.
This series of programs is designed for children ages 5-12.
Tuesday, January 30: What is the James River Park System?
Activities: View Watershed Map; Play with Enviroscape to learn about pollution
Take-Home Element: Map of the James River Park System
Tuesday, February 13: What lives in and around the James River?
Activities: View skulls and talk adaptations; Craft Stations on different animals in and around the James River
Take-Home Element: Animal Crafts
Tuesday, February 27: Navigating and enjoying the James.
Activity: Map Making and WayFinding

Tuesday, March 26: Activities in the James River Park System: Mindfulness Walk and journaling
Activities: Mindfulness walk around library; writing prompts about nature
Take-Home Element: A poem about nature; your writing/drawings
