RPL 100 History Presentation & Library Social

RPL 100 History Presentation & Library Social

An afternoon of history and socializing celebrating Richmond Public Library’s 100th year as a public institution!

There will be a historical presentation on RPL’s history, from our roots in private libraries and our formal creation in 1922 by Richmond City government, to the creation of the branches and 21st century services. The presentation will be followed by a social, which will include refreshments and an opportunity to add your voice to the historical record through written submissions or brief interviews, recorded on the spot. We are compiling a fuller, more comprehensive narrative of the Library, and hope to facilitate future communication and growth among the Library’s staff, its patrons, and our City as a whole.

RPL 100 is a year-long celebration of our 100th year one hundred years of service to the City. Our library evolves as the needs of our city and citizens evolve. The Richmond Public Library has the capacity to grow with the needs of our City and citizens. From one library location in 1922 to 9 neighborhood branches across all of all across Richmond in 2022, RPL continues to be a space for our the Richmond Community. Richmond Public Libraries are a place to study, read, research, collaborate, explore, think, create, meet, discover, and just be.
